Actually, this is an excellent question, and while I’ve written a great deal on this topic, I love continuing to do so as it keeps me sharp and learning more about dye sub printing and new developments in this arena of printing, which has some similarities to coffee printer, plus some significant differences.
An inkjet printer inside our organization is typically a minimum of 30 inches wide, but rise over sixteen feet in width, and those can be used dye sublimation printers also, although not generally interchangeably without flushing feed lines and some other technical “fixes” that need to be done before having the capacity to convert from one type of ink to some dye ink set.
For one thing, CMYK or four color process printing done with ink with an printing device actually uses the 4CP ink set CMYK (short version of cyan-magenta-yellow-black), contrary to the dye set used when printing when preparing for dye sub printing. The dye set is termed CMYO, which can be short for cyan-magenta-yellow-overprint clear, in which the dye is printed to your treated transfer paper, and in the temperature transfer process becomes the black color.
So, first, let me tell you what dye sublimation printers are certainly not employed for. They are certainly not used for natural fiber fabrics such as cotton, linen, or bamboo. Dye sublimation is usually not used for materials like PVC (vinyl) decal stock or banner materials, as uv flatbed printer works fine as being a surface print for such materials. Dye sublimation is generally not used for rigid plastics like styrene or polyethylene as flatbed digital UV printing is mainly used for this kind of printing. Other rigids such as MDO plywood or heavier plastics are also printed on the flatbed UV inkjet digital printers.
What dye sublimation is utilized for. Using a special polymeric coating, there are numerous items which can be printed using the dye sub print process like cups, metal or perhaps wood plaques and awards, or another type that mtyrxw be inserted right into a flatbed heated press.
And, obviously, fabric. Polymer-based fabrics including nylon or polyester could be printed using dye sublimation heat transfer from the treated transfer paper by printing a mirror image on the paper, matching it towards the fabric, and sending it through heated pressure rollers. This method, such as the flat press described above, converts the dye into a gaseous state and impregnates the temperature-opened polymer cells with color, which, following the heat and pressure are gone, close in around the dye, leaving colour permanently as part of the fabric. This not just creates durable color, t-shirt printing machine also creates almost photographic quality continuous tones which can be brighter and more colorful than an inkjet printer can normally achieve.
The printed fabrics can be utilized on X-banner stands, L-banner stands, Retractable or Adjustable banner stands, feather banners, blade banners, pop-up banner displays, teardrop banners, trade event displays, retail displays, hanging banner systems, garments, and everything else you can think of that is manufactured out of fabric in the commercial or non-commercial realm.
